Posted by Philothea` @ Saturday, April 23, 2005 | I'm supposed to go to bed now. Just recovered from a headache and cramps. But I'm feeling hyper now! Been trying to rearrange my photos. Looking at all the eye candy brought back so much fond memories and it certainly stired up some excitement in me. Beats me why I feel dat way too. Anyway, I've selected some pics to share. Hope they're intelligible.
Birthday celebrations! BIRTHDAY (CAKES)
my personal collection from the past yr, 2004

ashley's birthday cake; the usual one that you can purchase from shops.
but in church, we got really sick of those normal cakes so we started making our own designed cakes as such:
this was my birthday cake last yr! A surprise birthday celebration. Samatha, Sherli, SinHung baked the chocolate cake themselves and added my fav honeystars on top. So sweet of them! :) I really appreciated it.
this adorable cake is designed by Yiyou specially for Cheryl's 13th birthday! :)
and if you look carefully, you'll realise that the M&Ms form her name.
colourful and sweet, just like the way Cheryl would have it.
here's HimYi's 15th birthday cake :)
we were having steamboat buffet at marina south as a whole youth congregation that day.
There were quiet moments as well.
Patricia's 13th birthday ice cream 'cake' :)
she loves strawberries!
At times when we were broke and wanted things to be simple. There you go:
Sherli, Sin Hung and Karen's birthday cake. It may seem pathetic but they know how much we love them despite it all :)
Madgalene's 14th birthday! :) She was really hungry then so we decided to satisfy her with a full meal instead of a cake.
As funny as it may haf looked, she was thankful.
It's different when it comes to the DDMM where Pris, Daryl, Bruce, Ziying, Oli, David Hoe, David Ong, Ruth, JunYao is present. Cos there'll always be plenty of food! :)
That's Ruth, can't contain her joy as we celebrated her 19th birthday over supper.
Bruce's 18th birthday celebration at Ikea was great too even though there wasn't any cake.
That reminded me of my fav SWEDISH MEATBALLS! Yummy! Somebody, pls take me to IKEA!(",)the countless birthday celebrations I recalled, over the past year. And each special occasion brought abt many blessings which is a depiction of how wonderful life can be. I'm thankful :) :D :P
Time for sweet dreams! zZzZzZzzZzzZzz
Thursday, April 21, 2005 Angus Mcgillivary gave it all
Posted by Philothea` @ Thursday, April 21, 2005 | In Ernest Gordon’s true account of life in a World War II Japanese prison camp, Through the Valley of the Kawi, there is a story that never fails to move me. It is about a man who through giving it all away literally transformed a whole camp of soldiers. The man’s name was Angus McGillivary.
Angus was a Scottish prisoner in one of the camps filled with Americans, Australians, and Britons who helped build the infamous Bridge over the River Kawi. The camp had become an ugly situation. A dog-eat-dog mentality had set in. Allies would literally steal from each other and cheat each other: men would sleep on their packs and yet have them stolen fro under their heads. Survival was everything. The law of the jungle prevailed…until the news of Angus McGillivary’s death spread throughout the camp. Rumors spread in the wake of his death.
No one could believe big Angus had succumbed. He was strong, one of those whom they had expected to be the last to die. Actually, it wasn’t the fact of his death that shocked the men, but the reason he died. Finally they pieced together the true story.
The Argylls (Scottish soldiers) took their buddy system very seriously. Their buddy system was called their “mucker,” and these Argylls believed that is was literally up to each other to make sure their “mucker” survived. Angus’s mucker, though, was dying, and everyone had given up on him; everyone, of course, but Angus. He had made up his mind that his friend would not die.
Someone had stolen his mucker’s blanket. So Angus gave him his own, telling his mucker that he had “just come across an extra one.” Likewise, every mealtime, Angus would get his rations and take them to his friend, stand over him and force him to eat them, again stating that he was able to get “extra food.”
Angus was going to do anything and everything to see his buddy got what he needed to recover. But as Angus’s mucker began to recover, Angus collapsed, slumped over, and died. The doctors discovered that he died of starvation complicated by exhaustion. He had been giving of his own food and shelter. He had given everything he had-even his very life.
The ramifications of his acts of love and unselfishness had a startling impact on the compound. “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:12).
As word circulated of the reason for Angus McGillivary’s death, the feel of the camp began to change. Suddenly, men began to focus on their mated, their friends, and humanity of living beyond survival, of giving oneself away.
They began to pool their talents-one was a violinmaker, another orchestra leader, another a cabinetmaker, another a professor. Soon the camp had an orchestra full of homemade instruments and a church called the “Church without Walls” that was so powerful, so compelling, that even the Japanese guards attended. The men began a university, a hospital, and a library system. The place was transformed; an all but smothered love revived all because one man called Angus gave all he had for his friend. For many of those men this turnaround meant survival. What happened is an awesome illustration of the potential unleashed when one person actually gives it all away.

Posted by Philothea` @ Wednesday, April 20, 2005 | time for UPDATES!
sorry if you had came in vain to realise that this blog has been dead for weeks.
there's so many things that I can blog about but I just refused to sit in front of the computer and replay them on the keyboard again. In summary, I'm lazy or rather busy with other stuffs.
Anyway, I shall begin with my day.
Cooking wif mummy in da kitchen kept me real busy before noon. Headed down to Great World City. With the curteousy of smrtbuses.com.sg and sbs.com.sg, I managed to plan my route:
#1 take Bus 963 (36mins)
and alight at Assumption Voc Inst.
#2 take Bus 75 (43mins)
and alight at Great world City!
However, since we weren't in a hurry, darls and I decided to drop by Bukit P. shopping mall.
We got our soya drinks frm Mr. Bean and borrowed bks frm the library. figured out that we should keep ourselves entertained on the next bus journey ahead. tot that we might haf sum difficulties gettin to the next bus stop, we were surprised to realise that bus 75 is avaliable at Bukit P. bus interchange. dat saves us the trouble to keep a look out for Assumption Voc Inst.
So, we did arrive at Great World City. Went to town thereafter. By the way, the waiting time for the free shutter bus services at GWC is awfully long. Can't blame me for being impatient.
Dinner at cineleisure. Headed bac for movies at darls' place. The worst of all is havin to watch I do, I do. It's a movie you sld neva watch in the cinemas. I'm not in favor of Jack Neo's film. His best, award winning film sld credit to the original script writer cos story telling is really not Jack Neo's forteit. His attempts to be 'artistic' never seem to appeal to peeps like me.
Apart frm that, I had an enjoyable time today.
Yesterday 18 April 2005
I gave tuition to Yihan as usual and collected my pay, $140! It may seem little for 8 sessions but it's gd enuff for me.
Had a refreshing time of P&W at carmen's place before I bought the mini pizzas frm the california lemonade place which totally upset my appetite.
The most memorable event of that day was my interview at Snow City.
Initially I was a lil anxious that I might not be able to get the job as a videographer since there were so many applicantions. My fears seemed so unnecessary when it turned out that only 6 peeps appeared and the manager actually intented to hire more. He went thru the procedures and everything we needed we know. Here's the deal: Pay is $6 per hr, $7 for public holis, commission given $0.50 for every photo taken and $2 per video. On top of that, we played awhile inside the snow chamber to experience the job requirements. This may not surmise many but it's my first time at Snow City and gliding down the artifical slope! Imagine how excitied I was! It was freaky cold inside. Certainly, I had fun! :) Unfortunately, I duno understand how i can fall off the rubber float and my butt hurts! It actually happened twice. Ouch. Afterall, it's not so easy to be a videographer at snow city cos you can't shoot with the gloves on and when you tremble in the cold, the quality of the video sux. Plus, you have to work alone on the day of work and you're only given a pathetic small video cam to do the actual shoot without any editing. I wldn't pay $15/ $20 for such a dvd even it acts as a momento. But peeps are actually willingly and dat's why I wld haf a chance to be hired. But i wanna embrace more of such 'generosity' and earn my commission. Right now, I'm still waiting for a call frm snow city to confirm the details etc. Once it's done, think I'd be working on Sundays 11am - 6pm. To surmount all that financial issues my family's undergoing, I surely haf to earn more bucks and of cos, to be more thrifty.

Posted by Philothea` @ Monday, April 04, 2005 | I put aside all that angst tots and my anger dissipated.
Once again, I picked myself up and i'm ready to embrace the future! I am reminded that as long as I don't give up, God'll surely make a way.
And of cos, The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. Psalm 28:7
Sunday offically began when my sleep was interrupted by mummy's phone call. You can deem that as a wake up call since it was already 9am. Good news and bad news!
Good news: Mummy called to say that my uncle will deliver 2 television sets and which means I can finally haf TV in my room! I hope she havn't 4gotten abt gettin me a sofa bed as well. I'll make my room more comfy.
Bad news: I've to meet them downstairs in 5mins' time.
But I've only just gotten outta bed. What abt my unkempt hair and smelly breath.
Even so, i fell bac asleep till mummy made her third call and I hurried downstairs with my bro.
In the afternoon,
met up wif veron at khatib macs for shpding
afterwards, headed down to orchard rd.
Lunch at sushi tei and went shopping with my dishy.
joined Olivine and Zing at the singtel roadshow, outside HMV .
After much consideration, signed up for the singNet Broadband 512kbps unlimited student plan which is complimented with free Colby portable CD Player, ADSL EthernetModem, an Esprit watch and $400 IBM ThinkPad voucher.
my PacNet contracts end this mth. horray! I can't imagine I've been so faithful to PacNet since 1999.
Anyway, I took a picture with Perfect Ten's DJ, Jaime Yeo before i left.
She's rather friendly and definately, pretty.
Jaime: Did you just come from church?
Me: ?
Then I remembered i was carrying my bible in my hand.
To avoid any confusion, I just nodded and smiled.
Jaime: That's nice. I am going to church right after this.
Me: Ohh. can't exactly remb what i said
Jaime: Have fun and God bless!
